Bamboo
Hard to believe this is actually a grass. If you have been to Asia no doubt you have seen Bamboo scaffolding on new multi story buildings and the cross overs being secured with zip ties! Scary but it seems to work, well most of the time!

At The Park Last Night
McLaren Falls park last night was beautiful at that time of day.
The first shot is a Pukeko and is said to be virtually flightless most of the time. Well I caught this one flying at least 150m distance at 15 meters altitude with no problems at all.
Duck flying over autumn reflections
A beautiful spot

Seafaring Agee Jar Comes Ashore
The setting sun caught this fearless jar coming ashore after what may have been a great journey. Did it come from the Rena?
McLaren Falls Park. It's Autumn
Just a 15 minutes south of Tauranga McLaren falls park is lovely this time of year. There are lots of walks and even a coffee shop!

Go Canopus
This beast is working at the Rena wreck site at Astrolabe reef.
She was leaving Tauranga harbour when this shot was taken.
Built in Indonesia she sails under a Singapore flag.
She can accommodate 42 people and is 63m in length.
Classed as a Handling Tug Supply Vessel with a bollard pull of 149 ton. Thats a lot of grunt!

Driving Piles. Tauranga
The Tauranga container wharf is being extended. The cranes on the right are laying piles in place for driving.
In the background is the harbour entrance.

Reeds. 109 Years As An Unmarked Grave
This my Great Grand mother and my Grandfather.
While this is a humble headstone the story behind it may be of interest to my family.
Robyn and I set out years ago to find the graves of my mothers family in Nelson. I had a rough idea from childhood memories. When we finally found the plot it was unmarked and in bad shape. I recall my mother saying she had a wish and that was to put a headstone on her fathers (John Henry) grave. So she obviously knew it was unmarked. But as a family we left Nelson in 1957 and moved to Tauranga. Money was something other people had and I guess my parents had other things to spend their modest income on. Like five kids for example!
So it was our joy to finally mark the graves of these two important and remembered ancestors.
One for you mum.
